Air purifiers-also known as air cleaners or air fresheners-are devices designed to adsorb, decompose, or neutralize various air pollutants (typically including dust, pollen, odors, bacteria, allergens, and renovation-related contaminants like formaldehyde), thereby effectively improving air quality. They are primarily used in residential and commercial settings to eliminate indoor air pollution.
Air purifiers generally employ a combination of passive and active purification methods. A motor circulates indoor air, drawing polluted air through internal filters to capture or remove contaminants. The air then passes through a negative ion generator, which ionizes the air to produce negative ions; these are subsequently dispersed by a gentle airflow, creating a stream of negative ions that cleans and purifies the air. Key components include the outer casing, filtration modules, airflow ducting, a motor, a power supply, and an LCD display. Major technologies utilized include activated carbon adsorption, ion filtration, ozone sterilization, and High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filtration.
