Air purifiers primarily consist of components such as a motor, a fan, and an air filter. They operate by using the internal motor and fan to circulate indoor air; as polluted air passes through the filter, various contaminants are removed or adsorbed. Some models also feature a negative ion generator at the air outlet-which utilizes high voltage to produce a negative DC voltage during operation-to continuously ionize the air and generate a large volume of negative ions. These ions are then dispersed by the fan to create a negative-ion airflow, effectively cleaning and purifying the air.

Air purifiers are used in residential, medical, and industrial settings, with standalone household units dominating the residential market. Their primary function is to remove airborne particulate matter, such as allergens and indoor PM2.5. Additionally, they address air pollution caused by volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in indoor environments, underground spaces, and vehicle interiors resulting from renovations or other sources.
